Our own Julie Taylor, from Pathways UMC, is featured in a newsletter from the General Board of Global Ministries! Click here to read the article.
Julie Taylor serves as the community faith nurse (sometimes called parish nurse) at Pathways United Methodist Church, in Springfield, Missouri . MissionCast had an opportunity to sit down with Julie and learn a little about what she does and what Congregational Health Ministries are all about. This is the first of a two-part MissionCast to introduce you to Julie and this growing ministry in the Missouri Conference and the United Methodist Church at large. The United Methodist Women host an annual church-wide Bazaar each year on the first Saturday in November. The Bazaar offers a variety of handmade items and Christmas decorations and delicious copper-kettle Apple Butter plus a Turkey Dinner.
The 37th Annual Bazaar was held November 3, 2007 in the Family Life Center. Below are some photos taken on Friday when we were setting up. For many more pictures of the days activities CLICK HERE. (This link will take you to Flickr.com where the pictures are stored.)
Trunk or Treat
The Family Life Committee sponsored Trunk or Treat each year on the church parking lot. About 20 decorated car and truck trunks are opened for the neighborhood children to have a safe alternative celebration of Halloween. The police department and the ambulance service and the fire department often have their vehicles here, as well, for the kids and adults to inspect. The Committee serves free hot dogs, chips, and pop for everyone. The weather usually cooperates and it is a fun evening. One of the highlights in 2007 was when the fire department took the preacher and the church secretary up in the bucket of their hook and ladder truck which rose some 70 feet up into the air.

Apple Butter Makin’
Each year it seems we worry about the apples and how the weather has affected the quantity and quality and price, but 2010 is the 40th year that we have been making Apple Butter. In 2007, we made 407 pints and 233 quarts! All of our Apple Butter is for sale at our Church Bazaar on the first Saturday of November each year. In 2010 that is on Saturday, November 6, from 8AM to 2PM.
The apples are peeled, then cut up, run through a processor, and then slow-cooked (while constantly stirring) in giant copper kettles over a gas fire. The only other ingredients are sugar and cinnamon.
This is the 40th year for making apple butter at our church!
